Obama used social media as well as other forms of media to promote himself as a candidate. Now that he has won, why would he still need to use those promotional tactics? He got what he wanted.

Catherine,

Very good question and thoughts to ponder. As an Obama fan, perhaps I have been too engaged in the message and policy to step back and consider if his social network strategy is still doing the job as it did during the run for office.

After reading your post and scrubbing the thoughts you shared against the methodical, strategic techniques endorsed by the Social Media Academy and Black Diamonds, I have to agree with you. I continue to receive emails, video snippets, and links to microsites with rallying cries to support the administration and its current push for healthcare reform - as you stated, these are social media sales techniques rather than listing to the network and using social media as a way to crowd-source a rebuilding (or tweaking) of government. A closer tooling to be for the people and truly by the people.

Kindest regards,
Trent Sherrell
